It’s almost here!

A spiritual battle rages all around us. 

Though largely concealed from our eyes, God has revealed its inner workings to us in the Book of Revelation. 

Although the mysterious imagery of this book may confuse us, the revelation given to John was meant to encourage early Christians. 

As the Roman Empire, which it names Babylon, sought to stamp out the Church, God revealed that he would vindicate his saints and overcome their enemies. 

The nations rage, inspired by the dragon and his beasts, bringing the rebellion of the fallen angels onto earth. 

One thing defeats them: the blood of the Lamb.

St. Michael’s Lent will open up this vision to us, helping us to take up arms in this great battle. 

These forty days of prayer and penance imitate the practice of St. Francis of Assisi who prepared for the great feast of the Archangel Michael by joining the heavenly praise of the angels. 

Angels surround us, with good angels giving us aid in battle, and fallen angels tempting us to join their rebellion. 

God has given us spiritual strength to defeat our demonic enemies, and we will seek to unmask their machinations and arm ourselves against them. 

St. Michael’s Lent will prepare us for battle by taking up the spiritual weapons of prayer, asceticism, and fraternity.
